Fraud Risks in the Rental Business

This month we have invited David Pickron from Rent Perfect to share his tenant screening perspective. 

• How is the process changing?

• What should we be watching for as we are renting property?

AI has made it much easier for people to create false documents that look real. As a Private Eye, landlord, and Screening Company owner, David sees what is going on and can help us prepare for our next lease-up.  

From fake credit reports, to proof of income, and even fake driver’s licenses are common rental scams, and have become an increasing problem in recent years.

Signs to look for include:

• Formatting errors from irregular font use to spacing and alignment inconsistencies
• Account summaries not matching account overviews
• Whole numbers after taxes 
• Employer contact info that doesn’t trace to a real company
